As you may know, the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2014, recommended that pediatricians talk to all parents about reading to their children starting in infancy, to give books to high-risk, low income young children.

As well, research by educators, such as the landmark study by Hart and Risley, The Early Catastrophe, The 30 Million Word Gap by Age 3 show that the more words parents use when speaking to their infant child, the greater the size of the child’s vocabulary at age three.  Below you can read how you can partner with Mother Goose: Read to Me.

Social Agencies

Currently Mother Goose: Read to Me partners with social agencies, such as Community Health and Dental Clinic and Birthright to demonstrate to parents how to read

and tell stories to infants. We've also volunteered at the YWCA, the Salvation Army & the Pottstown School District.

Our volunteers have the following clearances:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

As well, our volunteers have $1M in liability insurance.

If your agency partners with Mother Goose: Read to Me, we can:

  • Meet at your agency, or a convenient location to explain the importance of reading to infants.

  • Attend classes that you support or sponsor, such as new mother's classes or classes for new parents; anywhere expecting mothers and parents gather to provide them with tips for reading to infants.

  • Work with parents (in small groups or one-on-one) to demonstrate reading and storytelling techniques.

  • Provide parents with a number of free age-appropriate books.
